Goals
My goals are to gain experience in international development, geospatial information analysis, and geography. I want to work in international development and utilize my geospatial analysis skills. I also plan to go to graduate school to earn a Masters degree in international development and GIS.
About Me
My name is Katherine Walker but I go by Katie. I grew up in the northern Virginia area. I currently attend the University of Florida. I am very eager to learn more about geography and the multiple areas it encompasses. This includes focusing my area of study to Africa. I am also earning a certificate in Geospatial Information Analysis by learning how to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and it's various software platforms to solve world problems. I am also very excited to minor in International Development and Humanitarian Assistance because I want to create sustainable development solutions and change in communities. This program has a lot of interesting courses that covers an array of topics that can be applied outside of the classroom. I am also in the International Scholars Program and Peace Corps Prep Program. Both programs enhance my involvement in different cultures as well as international studies with a development focus.
My first internship was at the U.S. Embassy in Maputo, Mozambique which allowed me to explore different career options, work in a unique environment, as well as gain international experiences and unique skills. The internship allowed me to gain more professional experience and grow as a person. My experience also helped me focus on what I want to do in the future. Read more...
